1 year ago when we moved in, our kitchen looked like this...
Check out the light covers that were 1/2 the size they should be(sweet!)
Now it looks like this.
Besides new counter tops(which are probably not in our budget for awhile), I am happy with it...
except that I've been wanting to make curtains for the windows, to replace the paper accordion blinds that were there when we bought the house.
I scored this green striped fabric last week for $1 per yard at the LA Fashion District & thought it would be some more green into the room. The wall green & the fabric green really don't clash, even though they look like they do in these pictures.
But WHAT kind of curtains should I make?
Keep in mind...the windows go all the way to the ceiling with the trim, so it might limit WHERE I can hang the rod. Also, I want to be able to open and shut the curtains to keep Tom from peeping in at nights!

I found these curtains in the Homes And Garden Journal
What do you think of these Half Curtains?
Half of me loves them
& half of me thinks, where is the other half?
I have ALWAYS loved this style of curtains & my friend(thanks Melis!) sent me this tutorial yesterday from Infarrantly Creative. I think they would be really cute with the green stripes I bought!
I love the idea of just sewing straight lines & attaching the curtains with these clippy things, like found in this tutorial from Make it & Love it!
I like that it would be REALLY EASY to open & close the windows as I please...
how about these Roman Shades from Palmer Weiss...
They seem like they would be pretty simple to make.

I really like the idea of "doubling up" & maybe putting some pull down shades inside the windows & then curtains over the top, like Urban Grace Interiors did here...
Do you have an easy curtain tutorial you can share with me?
What style would YOU choose if you were me?

I'm a fan of the clippie type curtains... I made the tie up ones for my daughter's room... they're cute, but not holding up as well as I'd hoped...
Simpler always gets my vote :)
I've always liked roman shades in the kitchen and have been waiting to find the right material to do this with mine. it's not my tutorial, but it's cute

I like the Roman Shade, I was going to suggest it, and am glad you have it pictured (the yellow ones). I don't know how easy they are to make, but I have always loved them. I love what you've done with the kitchen, and you'll get rid of those tile couters soon enough. Whoever thought tile was a good countertop needs to be shot, seriously, I've never understood it. The one thing I want to say before I leave you, is this....sometimes I am profoundly happy I don't live at home, but then I am also profoundly sad. I know if I lived at home still you could help me with all my home decorating needs...because I need them!
The tie-ups are my favorite, of course (I have my blinds behind them for at night time).
Otherwise, I saw this tutorial & I'm thinking of going this route in Reed's room.

How stinkin' fun is that?
I just happened upon your blog. I adore everything!!! I'm your newest follower.
I like the tie the best but you would probably want something behind them (so you don't have to tie and untie all the time). I think the roman shades would be really cute.
Of course I think the tie up shades is best :-) followed by a close second with the roman shades.
I like the half ones. But maybe because I love white! SO fresh and so clean!
But you make anything look good....just be sure to tell us...and show us pictures..once you do decide.
Stopping by from BNotP! I love bead board! Your idea was so cute and clever!
clueless about curtains! :(
sorry
I'm your newest follower! what took me so long?

Staci-
I love your blog! You are amazing!! I love the Roman Shades. They would be very pretty! Wish I could just whip out some curtains for my living room. I am not such a great seamstress though.
Would love you to stop by my blog if you get the chance! Have a great day!

I think the half curtains are what I would pick.
Staci,
I will be painting my kitchen cabinets someday soon. Can I ask what kind/color of paint you used?
what sheen?
I love the look!

Beautiful! I would go for roman shades... But you have a great taste so whatever you choose, I'm sure it'll be pretty! :) Oh, I've noticed you mentioned something about countertops... Well, I'm considering all the options, too. So, I found a website (www.granitetransformations.com) ... It seems cheaper and easier to install but I don't really know much about it. Anyway, I just wanted to share it with you. Thanks!
Hi Staci, I don't have a tutorial on my curtain set up, but I just took a pic of it. Your choice in fabric is similar to the one I have, although mine is red striped. My windows are also bay windows, and even though mine don't go up to the ceiling they are almost exactly like yours. Where should I send you my pic so you can see it. I think you might like it. I really like your blog too, and am now a follower. Thanks again. :)
Hey Staci,
My bay area in my kitchen is almost exactly like your window setup, although my windows do not go up to the ceiling the shape of the windows makes it hard to put up curtain rods, so I came up with this idea. I just took a pic of my curtains, and I don't have a tutorial but I think you might like it. My curtains are also similar to yours, although mine are red striped instead. Where can I send you my picture?
I love your blog btw, and will follow it, you have some great ideas. :)
Thanks, and can't wait to see how your curtains turned out.
