Some Beadboard Love

I have found a lot of "I want to do that" projects, but I haven't done one of my own in awhile, so I thought I'd take advantage of the fact that BOTH of my BOYS went down for a NAP this afternoon & MAKE SOMETHING!!!

I didn't know what I was going to do, but decided I need a Valentine's Decoration...so this is what I came up with...
(There is a tutorial below if interested!)

I went to my garage for some inspiration & to look at the scrap wood pile & found this piece of beadboard...

Thought to myself, I could just cut out a heart for the front door. That would be super easy...

Oh wait. We don't own a saw!
Why don't we own a saw? I have no idea. Maybe I will get one for Matt for Valentine's day.
Am I allowed to get him something that I want?? :)

Well...I did happen to dig around and found this saw in a toolbox.
Wasn't great. I was thinking of an electric saw...but we'll make do, I only have 45 minutes left of naptime...

Worked great. Took about 5 minutes to cut.
But I could NOT figure out how to make it curve around the edges & round out the corners...

SO I left it as is!
And I liked that it wasn't your typical rounded heart!
Next...drill holes in the top...

Then I sanded down the edges & spray painted it PINK.
I don't have a picture of this step, but if you down know how to sand or spray paint...then this tutorial is not going to be enough anyways.

------------------------

While the paint dried, I went inside to dig around for anything PINK OR RED.
I came up with 2 kinds of pink ribbon & some foam conversation hearts, leftover from a preschool craft 2 years ago.
Made a little flower-y thing...

Took the other stuff I had and wound in a circle...
My heart was DRY...kind of. I probably shoould have waited awhile longer, but naptime was running out. So I sanded down the edges & the top of the heart to give it a distressed look.

Dug up some black ribbon & hot glued it on the board...

Glued my little flower-y ribbon thing on, adding a conversation heart...because I thought it was cute...
And put some black ribbon through the holes I drilled to hang it on my front door!
But then...I didn't like that, because we have a SCREEN, so you couldn't really see the heart, unless the screen was opened.

So, I moved it over & hung it on our porch light instead...
Total project time: 30 Minutes & it was SUPER Easy!
You could add more embellishments or just leave it plain...have fun with it!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

If you have any fun Valentine Craft ideas, PLEASE let me know.
I have 1 week left to make a few more fun things!

I absolutely LOVE this idea! It's the first beadboard heart I've seen. I love that is 'rough' (boxy corners.) I will feature this at somedaycrafts.blogspot.com in the morning and send some traffic your way!
